Basma Amawi

Basma Amawi has a 35-year career with the US Department of State as a Senior Cultural Affairs Specialist working in the largest mission in the Near East and one of the five largest in the world. She managed the largest multi-faceted portfolio focusing on development issues, women empowerment and gender equality, education planning and programming, promotion of culture in addition to good governance. Throughout her career, she conceptualized, implemented, contributed to, improved, and sustained the effects of every type of public diplomacy programs and interventions in academic exchange programs (Fulbright), sending senior government officials, the Royal Palace, youth from the various governorates, religious leaders, the media, women's organizations, academia, and civil society representatives and served as an interlocutor with high-level Jordanian stakeholders in order to identify and develop program opportunities, conceptualize programs and exchanges, and solicit support for relevant projects.
